DJ Soundclash Introducing the first ever DJ battle to be held on Waiheke, DJ R G Bargy, and The Mighty Jabsco Sound System will be battling it out in a head-to-head Sound Clash competition for Ska and Reggae supremacy. Whoever the winner, it promises to be a fantastic evening of Jamaican music at the Rocks Bar, Saturday 12th June from 8pm till late.
A brief history of the Soundclash A soundclash is a musical competition where opposing Sound System DJ’s pit their skills against each other. The Sound System concept first became popular in the 1950’s, in the ghettos of Kingston Jamaica. The main object of the competition is to beat the opposing DJ by carefully selecting and playing tracks that will gain the best reaction from the audience.
The Mighty Jabsco wins Sound Clash.
Thanks to everyone who came down to the Rocks Bar last Saturday evening June 12th to witness a very closely fought battle between Waiheke’s heavyweight Reggae DJ’s R G Bargy and The Mighty Jabsco. The night was seamlessly run by MC Skin & Bone who did a wonderful job of keeping the night a good clean fight. In the Dub music round one, it was a neck-and-neck draw, with both DJ’s playing a great selection of danceable Dub from traditional Jamaican roots, through to modern digital Dub. During the Reggae music round, DJ R G Bargy took a very convincing lead by beating Jabsco 18 votes to 12. However, Jabsco pulled out all the stops during the Ska round with a skanking left hook to beat R G Bargy 23 votes to 12. Again, the final track-for-track round saw both DJ’s draw again which meant that Jabsco just came through, winning 53 votes to 48. Both competitors had great fun and everyone really enjoyed the music, so well done to both DJ’s and we hope to see Jabsco defending his title some time soon.
